A beautiful mind: review
Title: A beautiful mind
Actor: Rusell Crowe
Director: Ron Howard
We choose this movie because it shows how a person can overtake its problems for loving his family, his career and his friends.
This movie represents the story of John Nash Jr. He was an extraordinary mathematician who suffers a mental disease. The first part of the movie narrates the live of Nash in Princeton University coursing his PhD in mathematics. There, he develops an interesting idea in game theory. He proves that it is possible to find an equilibrium point in n-person games where each individual chooses his best option. It was a departure of the traditional idea of zero sum games where the profits of one individual equal the losses of other individual.
The second part of the movie narrates the working life of Nash. He began his work as an analyst of a remarkable institution of the department of defense of USA. There, he applied game theory to the solution of some important problems for the country. Meanwhile, he began to suffer a mental disease imagining things that does not exist. It creates some problems in his family to the point that his wife sent him to a mental hospital. He loses his work and his family for a time and it was a critical problem for him.
He learnt how to treat the disease. He controlled his hallucinations and improves some skills in mathematics. He returned to the scientific research by developing some ideas in mathematics and game theory. It was a tough treatment not only for the medications but also because he loved his imaginary friends. At this time, his work of game theory was being popularized by some colleagues applying his theory to economics and biology. The Sweden academy considered his work as a candidate of a Nobel Prize in economics and it gets the attention of the top Universities in the world.
The last part of the movie shows the actual life of Nash. He works at Princeton University after receiving the Nobel prize in economics in 1994. He develops some research at the department of mathematics and he gives some lectures in his research. He is an example of how it is possible to live struggling with our problems and trying to solve them with energy and passion. It is a really inspiring movie.
